The presidency has resolved the lingering clash between the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) over the board of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF). Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina in a statement said, “Following the disagreement between the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) over the appointment of the Chairman of the board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), the Presidency wishes to clarify as follows: “A. Former Nigeria military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has described as untrue rumour that he slumped in Delta State on Friday, May 3, during the funeral ceremonies of former Military Governor of defunct Midwest Region, late Major General David Ejoor. The rumour that the former military head of state, now 85, slumped went viral in the media for some days thereby causing a stir across the land. Senate is Moving To Make LG Autonomy Mandatory

The Senate yesterday adopted  a motion demanding some stakeholders like State Houses of Assembly and the Presidency to expedite action on granting financial autonomy to local government councils across the country. The Senate also accused state governors of mismanaging the state/local government joint accounts. The Senate’s resolution followed a motion sponsored by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (APC, Niger North) as a result of the new financial guideline issued by Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) on Monday. NFIU’s new guidelines mandate financial institutions to distribute funds accruable to local governments among the local government councils of that state and not for other purposes. Nigeria Senate passes electoral act into law overriding the President The Nigeria Senate has passed the Electoral Act No. 6 (2010 Amendment) Bill 2017 into law overriding the assent of the president . The amended act are as follows; 1. There shall now be full biometric accreditation of voters with Smart Card Readers and/or other technological devices, as INEC may introduce for elections from time to time. 2. Presiding Officers must now instantly transmit accreditation data and results from Polling Units to various collation centers. Presiding officer who contravene this shall be imprisoned for at least 5 years (no option of fine). 3. All Presiding Officer must now first record accreditation data and polling results on INEC’s prescribed forms before transmitting them. The data/result recorded must be the same with what they transmitted. 4. INEC now has unfettered powers to conduct elections by electronic voting. 5. UTME results: JAMB begins biometric verification of 1.8m candidates in 36 states, FCT

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has begun the biometric verification of the 1.8 candidates who sat for this year’s unified tertiary matriculation examination, it was learnt yesterday. It was further learnt that the exercise embarked upon by the board, was responsible for the delay in releasing the UTME results conducted from April 11 to April 18. The board has already carried out biometric verification of candidates in 31 states. It is presently verifying those of candidates from six other states.  He said the board was cross-checking everything pertaining to the conduct of the examination, including fingerprints of candidates. Prof. Oloyede, who did not list the states the board has so far verified the fingerprints of candidates, said: “We are cross-checking everything, including fingers. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned that Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) caught dispensing counterfeit Naira notes through the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) or over the counter teller points will pay a fine of N1 million Naira. CBN’s Director currency operations, Mrs Priscilla Eleje sounded the note of warning on Tuesday during the unveiling of the CBN Clean Notes Policy & Banknote Fitness Guidelines in Lagos.

It's  gathered that Kaduna side, Green Berets who lost 2-1 to Ambassadors in the final of State FA Cup, will seek a place in the Round of 64 when they face Suleiman Boys from Jigawa State. He also dissolved 64 Development Centres’ Co-ordinators and over 200 Management Committee members that hailed from the 13 Local Government Areas of the State. A young Uniport Graduate passed away.

A pretty young graduate, identified as Bobwhyte Adokiye Damiete has reportedly died. Her    friends and colleagues have taken to social media to mourn the death of the beautiful young lady who recently graduated from the University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers state. The deceased identified as Bobwhyte Adokiye Damiete, just graduated from the department of Anatomy and is said to have passed away this morning after suffering brain tumour. Her friends who are heartbroken – mourned the death on social media while lamenting the recent increase in deaths of UNIPORT students. May her soul rest in peace. Her death is coming two days after a 100 Level Chemical Engineering student of the same institution (UNIPORT), Hikmat Gbadamosi – died of apparent suicide after a long-standing battle with depression. She is assumed to have consumed two bottles of a poisonous substance (sniper) which eventually led to her death.
